We write Innovator Founder Visa business plans for the people who will assess them. Every section answers the innovation, viability or scalability test with evidence, and numbers you can defend in interview.

In short: an Innovator Founder Visa business plan is the document a Home Office approved endorsing body uses to decide whether your business is innovative, viable and scalable. It needs evidence, not adjectives: cited UK market research, named competitors, dated milestones and a three-year forecast where every number traces back to an assumption.

What is an Innovator Founder Visa business plan?

The Innovator Founder Visa lets founders set up and run an innovative business in the UK. Before you can apply to the Home Office, you need an endorsement letter from an approved endorsing body, and that decision rests almost entirely on your business plan. If you are new to the route, start with our Innovator Founder Visa requirements checklist.

This is not the same as a plan for a bank loan or an investor. A bank wants to know you can repay. An investor wants a return. An endorsing body wants to know three specific things, and a plan that does not answer them directly is likely to be refused however polished it looks.

The three tests your plan must pass

1. Innovation

Your business must offer something genuinely new or different from what is already on the UK market. That can be a new technology, a new process, a new business model or a product for an underserved market. It cannot be a copy of an existing service in a new location.

How we evidence it: a named competitor comparison, a precise statement of what you do that they do not, and, where possible, a working prototype that shows it.

2. Viability

The endorsing body must believe you can actually make this work: that you have, or can get, the skills, knowledge, funding and market access the business needs.

How we evidence it: a founder profile mapped to the business, a funded budget for year one, demand evidence such as customer interviews, sign-ups or letters of intent, and a forecast built on written assumptions.

3. Scalability

Your business must show structured planning and potential for job creation and growth into national or international markets.

How we evidence it: a hiring plan tied to revenue, a go-to-market plan beyond your first city, and dated milestones for years one to three.

Your milestones matter twice. They persuade the endorsing body now, and they are what you will be checked against at your contact-point meetings during the visa. Ambitious is good; unrealistic is a risk you carry for three years.

Why a prototype strengthens your plan

Assessors are asked to judge two things a document alone struggles to prove: whether the idea is real, and whether you can deliver it. A working prototype answers both. It turns “we will build” into “we have built”, and it gives you something concrete to demonstrate in interview.

Because our team builds production software, we can add a clickable prototype or working MVP, a live product website and a pitch deck. See Plan & Prototype.

How we write it, step by step

  1. Free idea assessment. We check your idea against the three tests and tell you honestly where it is strong and weak, before you pay for writing.
  2. Discovery call. We go deep on your idea, background, funding and target market.
  3. Research. UK market data, named competitors and evidence of demand, all cited.
  4. Plan and forecast together. We build the narrative and the financial model side by side so the numbers match the story.
  5. Revisions. Two rounds of revisions on the full draft.
  6. Walkthrough. We take you through every section and number so you can defend the plan in your endorsing body interview. Our guide to endorsement interview questions helps you prepare.

Cost and timeline

Every business is different, so we quote each project individually. After your free assessment you get a fixed quote, agreed before any work starts, with no surprises later. A Business Plan usually takes two to three weeks once we have your information; Plan & Prototype takes four to six weeks. See our packages.

Your plan is one of several costs on this route. Endorsing bodies charge an endorsement fee and contact-point fees, and the Home Office charges an application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge. Our Innovator Founder Visa cost guide adds them all up.

How to choose a business plan writer

Whoever you choose, including us, ask these questions before you pay:

  • Do they assess your idea first? A writer who takes payment for any idea, without telling you if it is weak, is not on your side.
  • Do they write for the three tests? Ask how each section maps to innovation, viability and scalability.
  • Are market figures cited? Ask to see how sources are referenced.
  • Do you get the financial model? A PDF of numbers you cannot change will not help you at contact points.
  • Will they walk you through it? You must be able to defend every number yourself.
  • Do they promise endorsement? If yes, walk away. No one can honestly guarantee it.
  • Do they give immigration advice without being regulated? Plan writing is not regulated; immigration advice is.

Frequently asked questions

What should an Innovator Founder Visa business plan include?
An executive summary, founder profile, problem and solution, a clear statement of what is innovative, UK market research with sources, competitor analysis, business model, go-to-market plan, team and hiring plan, dated milestones for three years, a three-year financial forecast with stated assumptions, and risks. Every section should answer the innovation, viability or scalability test.
How long should an Innovator Founder Visa business plan be?
There is no official length. Most strong plans run to roughly 25 to 40 pages plus a financial model. Length matters far less than whether each section answers one of the three tests with evidence. Padding makes plans weaker, not stronger.
How much does an Innovator Founder Visa business plan cost?
Marketplace freelancers charge a few hundred pounds; specialist firms typically charge from around £1,500 to several thousand. Because every business is different, we quote each project individually and agree a fixed price after your free assessment, before any work starts. Endorsing body and Home Office fees are separate.
Can I write my own Innovator Founder Visa business plan?
Yes, and some founders do. The risk is writing a plan for a bank or investor rather than for an endorsing body. If you write it yourself, map every section to the three tests, cite every market figure and make sure your forecast assumptions are written down.
How long does it take to write the plan?
With us, usually two to three weeks once we have your information, and four to six weeks for Plan & Prototype. Allow extra time for the endorsing body's assessment and any interview before your current visa expires.
Can a business plan writer guarantee endorsement?
No. Endorsing bodies make independent decisions, and anyone guaranteeing endorsement is a red flag. A good writer can make sure your plan clearly answers the tests and that you can defend it.
Do endorsing bodies accept AI-written business plans?
Endorsing bodies assess the substance, not the tool. Generic text, uncited claims and plans the founder cannot explain in interview are what get refused, and that is exactly what unedited AI text tends to produce.
Will you tailor the plan to my endorsing body?
Yes. Once you have chosen an endorsing body, we tailor the plan to what that body emphasises. Choosing the body is a decision to take with your regulated immigration adviser.
Do you write plans for founders applying from outside the UK?
Yes. Most of our process runs over video calls, email and WhatsApp, wherever you are based.
